Sharing is Caring!

Do you know that there are plastics made from corn starch? Such plastics often referred to as 'Corn Starch plastic', comes from fermented plant starch (mostly from corn). Their technical name is Polylactic Acid (PLA). PLA is used for different purposes including making cold drink cups, deli and takeout containers, and fresh produce packaging. From the production viewpoint, PLA is derived from a renewable resource. It is compostable where commercial compost facilities are available. PLA does not produce toxic fumes if incinerated. However, there are moral issues as corn is used as a raw material rather than food while many people suffer from food scarcity in different parts of the world.
